Our Design Process
We Make Story Walls Easy
Wherever you are in this journey called life – we can help you live closer to the joy and connection that is your story. Whether you are a super busy human who wants to live in the presence of a story wall but wants a professional to create it, a seasoned do-it-your-self-er and like to specify every detail of a project, or somewhere in between. Don’t sweat it… We will work with you – where ever you are. For those looking for a done-for-you service, we work with you to create the story wall of your dreams. And for our DIYers, we have made creating a collage as easy as choosing your child’s school picture package.
Whether you choose our custom collage service or one of our collage packages, we make designing your gallery wall easy. Feel free to reach out to us before you place your order if you have any pre-order questions or concerns. We are happy to consult with you.
When we receive your order, we'll send you a link where you can upload your images. If you do not have digital versions of your images you will have to scan them. For the highest quality consider using a professional service. Scan My Photos offers 600 DPI scans of photographs, negatives, and slides for approximately 30 cents per scan. The questionnaire covers everything from asking you a bit about the story you are telling to specifying your preference for the anchor image (your most important image around which other images will be arranged). In a few short days we send you a first draft of your layout. Once you review the layout, send us any changes you would like to see such as size of images and placement within the collage. Once we update the layout we will send you a revised file for your approval.
For custom collages, it starts by sending us an image of the room that shows where the wall art will be displayed along with the dimensions. After placing your order, you can either upload via the link we send you or send us an invite to a Dropbox full of photos. Some clients want a little input and some simply say, "Surprise me!" Where here to make you happy, so we'll work with you however you wish. For any questions on our process, just contact us directly.
Learn How We Design and Create Your Wall Art
Step 1: Design
Once we know where your collage will be displayed, receive your digitized pictures and the answers to our questionnaire, and know which image is most important, we will begin designing the collage. Here are the steps that are taken to create your wall art,
- Your images will be selected, edited and sized.
- Images are edited using Adobe Photoshop for contrast, color, sharpness, and consistency.
- We size your images so that they come together to form a narrative. When viewed together they will tell your story.
- Once the first layout is drafted, we email you a .PDF version of the collage for you to review. This is your opportunity to fine-tune the design. Let us know your thoughts.
- If you would prefer, mark up the layout and send us a scanned version of the changes you would like to see.
- We will revise the layout and send you a revised draft.
Three draft layouts are included in your purchase.
Step 2: Production
Once your design is finalized, we begin the printing process. Images are printed on the highest grade of CARB compliant Baltic birch plywood. Birch is a highly renewable resource! The inks used in the printing are low/no-voc inks, called UV curable inks, which are solvent free. These colors will stand the test of time as they are printed directly onto the wood, and will not fade.
Step 3: Hanging Your Wall Art
We make hanging your wall simple. Every project comes with easy to understand instructions, a graphic diagram that shows where to attach your images and peel and stick 3M Command Strips for hanging the artwork. The only tool you need is a level or a downloadable level app for your phone. For iPhone click here. For Android click here.
